A young Dubbo woman interested in charity activities and the local business community is taking part in a renowned competition that could see her representing her city at a state level.

Twenty-year-old Annabelle Hayes has jumped at the chance to vie for the 2018 Zoo FM Dubbo Showgirl title.

She’s one of the early entrants in the annual competition that provides a platform for young women who have an interest and knowledge of rural NSW.

Miss Hayes and other hopefuls will gather for judging and the Dubbo Show Ball on May 5.

She told the Daily Liberal she was looking forward to the occasion.

The Dubbo City Toyota administration team member said she wished to be more involved in the community, especially the Dubbo Show.

Miss Hayes also anticipated it would provide her with good interview experience, a chance to meet other young women and a challenge.

“Through my workplace I have been involved with events such as Pink Up Dubbo, the 2017 Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer and Lexus golf days,” she said.

“I’ve really enjoyed being involved in those.”

A graduate of St Johns College, Miss Hayes has obtained a certificate three in automotive administration.

Her interests include baking, group fitness classes, tennis, walking, and spending time with family and pets.

A regular through the gates of the Dubbo Show over the years, Miss Hayes “really enjoy(s) all the car stuff” because she works in the field, but also the cookery competition and seeing the animals.

Organisers of this year’s competition recently held an information night about the “rewarding and fun experience” at the Commercial Hotel.

The contest is for women aged 18 to 24 years and entries remain open until Wednesday May 2.

Entry packs are available at www.dubboshow.org or from the Dubbo Show office on Fitzroy Street.

This year the organisers have launched a Facebook page, Dubbo Showgirl.

Tickets to the Dubbo Show Ball are on sale through 123tix.
