Travel data from travel site Wotif showed Australia-wide, Dubbo was the eighth best location for families.
It was also one of only four NSW destinations to make the top ten.
Gold Coast came in at the best destination, followed by the Sunshine Coast. Meanwhile the top NSW destination was Coffs Harbour which came in at third on the list. Fourth was the Great Ocean Road.
While it might have made the Wotif list as a great holiday destination, Dubbo Regional councillor David Grant said he felt sorry for Gold Coast residents.
“Dubbo we must be disappointed that we weren't chosen to host the Logies. If the terrible closing ceremony of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is any example of what the Gold Coast can do then the 2018 Logies will be a long night. (I think I saw some athletes asleep),” he wrote on his Councillor David Grant Facebook page on Sunday night.
“I really feel sorry for anyone living on the Gold Coast at this point in time and to escape your embarrassment we welcome you to Dubbo with open arms. Look forward to seeing you.”
During the school holidays 45 per cent of families will go away with their children, according to Wotif.
Wotif travel expert Amanda Behre said her advice for the school holidays was to remember it was the little things that counted and families didn’t need to travel far or break the budget for a memorable holiday.
“These April school holidays we’re seeing strong demand for Dubbo, with plenty of out-of-towners coming to experience the region’s many family-friendly experiences,” Ms Behre said.
“There are fantastic accommodation options within the region, and Dubbo is also an affordable alternative for families, with a predicted average accommodation rate of $170 a night.
“There are plenty of kid friendly activities occurring during the holidays, including the new lion precinct at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo and the Old Dubbo Gaol, who are running family tours throughout the break.”
