Mayor of the Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) Ben Shields said this year’s local theme “Same, Same, Different” is how the young organisers have interpreted the wider NSW theme of unity through diversity.
“Youth Week in the Dubbo region is organised by young people, for young people with the support of council and a range of agencies and organisations focused on youth services,” Cr Shields said.
“The events build connections among young people and encourages people to participate in positive community events and experiences,” he said.
“Youth Week in Dubbo is widely regarded as one of the best in the State and by hosting a number of events in Wellington this year, Youth Week is reaching out right across the whole LGA,” Cr Shields said.
Highlights of Youth Week 2018 include the “Same-Same-Different” Youth Celebration and Cinema Under the Stars in Dubbo on Wednesday April 18 and the Wellington Youth Fun Day on Thursday April 19 and Cinema Under the Stars in Wellington on April 24.
DRC Youth Development Officer Jason Yelverton said the Dubbo Youth Council has a direct responsibility for planning Youth Week, which is one of the reasons it is so successful.
“The Youth Council has worked with organisations such as PCYC Wellington, TAFE Western, Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre and many others to develop a varied and exciting program of events,” Mr Yelverton said.
“All the events are either free or require only a minimal donation or charge so as many people as possible can participate.
“The range of events also means there is something for all ages,” he said.
