The latest in a series of youth health forums steamed live to 28 NSW sites from the Children’s Hospital Westmead drew representatives of education, health, justice and welfare groups to the Dubbo campus.
Ms Paxton said multiple speakers addressed the forum’s theme of youth violence and aggression, offering strategies for forum participants to consider using in the course of their work.
“They’re talking about different strategies and the fact that it’s really about emotional regulation and brain development at this age,” she said.
“I think we need to work on how they can control their emotions and anger and then give them skills so it doesn’t manifest into anti-social behaviour.”
Ms Paxton said the triannual forums had been well received in Dubbo for the past 10 years, partly because participants appreciated not having to take time off work and travel.
She said the themes of the remaining two forums in 2018 were adolescence in the digital world and sexual health.
