On Tuesday state Member for Dubbo Troy Grant announced the extra money for the health district and declared it would “make a big difference to a lot of people’s lives”.
“In September 2017, the Minister for Health Brad Hazzard, announced an injection of an extra $3 million so people can have surgery performed earlier,” Mr Grant said.
“I am delighted that Western NSW’s bid was successful and will receive $976,000 to do more hip and knee and cataract procedures.”
In the July to September 2017 quarter, Dubbo Hospital had 99 people waiting an average 328 days for cataract extraction, down from 333 days in the same period the previous year.
The Bureau of Health Information also reported 33 patients were waiting an average 315 days for total knee replacements, up from 304 days in the same quarter of 2016.
Fourteen patients were waiting an average of 67 days for total hip replacements, down from 322 days during July to September 2016.
