Police from the Orana Mid-Western district, as well as other emergency personnel, were called to the scene on the Golden Highway about 5.30am after being alerted to the single-vehicle accident.
They arrived to find the 27-year-old driver trapped inside his utility, although he was able to be released a short while later.
Alternating traffic conditions were in place at Old Mendooran Road for a period of time but traffic wasn’t badly affected.
The man was transported to Dubbo Hospital with severe injuries to one of his legs.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are continuing, with police looking into fatigue and speed as potential factors.
Officers are yet to speak with the driver of the vehicle, who spent most of Wednesday receiving medical attention.
