A total of 22mm had been recorded at the automatic weather station at Dubbo City Regional Airport by Friday morning.

It included 7.6mm from the storm on Thursday night and 1.6mm from the storm on Wednesday morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s seven-day forecast as of Friday predicted daily storms and the “chance of showers” up until Sunday.

But a downpour is unlikely.

The bureau reports of a 70 per cent chance of up to 5mm of rain falling on Saturday and a 30 per cent chance of  up to 0.2mm of rain falling on Sunday.

The seven-day forecast includes a 20 per cent chance of “any rain” on Wednesday, January 31.

Dubbo is faring better than many of its neighbours in a dry start to 2018.

On Friday Bourke had received a total of 3.4mm of rain, all of it falling in the 24-hour period to 9am that day. Average rainfall in the town in January is 31.3mm.

Walgett’s rainfall tally sat at 6.8mm of which 4mm fell in the 24 hours to 9am Friday. The town’s average rainfall in January is 59mm.

Cobar received 0.2mm in the 24 hours to 9am Friday, pushing its total rainfall for the month to 5mm.

It needed another 40.5mm to achieve average rainfall for January.

Above-average daytime temperatures have also helped brown landscapes in the western region.

On Friday the average top temperature in Dubbo this month was 36.3 degrees Celsius, 3.1 degrees higher than the long-term average maximum temperature for January of 33.2 degrees.

Bourke’s average top temperature this month was 40.8 degrees, 3.6 degrees higher than its long-term maximum temperature for January of 37.2 degrees. Corresponding temperatures for Walgett and Cobar are 39.6 degrees and 35.6 degrees, and 38.2 degrees and 34.2 degrees.

The bureau is forecasting 35 degrees in Dubbo on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
