November 11, 2018 will mark one hundred years since an armistice was declared and World War I ended.
The Centenary of Anzac Day in 2015 was acknowledged with a sleep out at Victoria Park’s No 1 Oval, organised by the Dubbo City Youth Council in partnership with Dubbo City Council and the RSL Sub Branch.
Like the Centenary of Anzac Day, Mayor Ben Shields has formed a committee to ensure proper recognition is given to Remembrance Day 2018.
The committee will be comprised of himself, two councillors, council’s general manager, director corporate services Craig Giffin, director community and recreation Murray Wood and two representatives from the RSL Sub-Branch.
“We, well the former Dubbo City Council, had a very, very successful centenary of Anzac in 2015. It marked a very significant event in Australia’s history, some call it a baptism of fire. We have an equally important date coming up next year, just under 12 months away, where we have the centenary of armistice,” Cr Shields said.
“I see it important that we do get together, and have the local people in the community get together, to organise the remembrance day ceremony and also to consider other appropriate things that could be added to the city, to our cenotaph and war memorial areas in Victoria Park,” he said.
