It wasn’t the best of his nine consecutive wins but it was still an utterly convincing showing from Mrs Browns Boy in Sunday’s Coo-ee Motel Gilgandra Cup (2120m) at Dubbo Paceway.

The Amanda Turnbull-trained and driven five-year-old kept his unbeaten run in Australia going with a classy 4.6m win in the $10,200 feature.

Turnbull said the win wasn’t as strong as the near-perfect victory in the Blayney Cup a week earlier but it was still one to savour.
“I’m really loving him. It’s been really good,” Turnbull said of Mrs Browns Boy.
“Blayney was probably more impressive but today he was having more of a look (around) and was a bit casual. Blayney he was fresh and ready to go.”
Turnbull has praised the gelding’s versatility during his run of winners and on Sunday in front of a healthy crowd it was his gate speed which set up the win.
It also meant Turnbull avoided some early drama with galloping and wheels interlocking forcing half the field of eight to fall well of the pace.
He’s pretty casual at home ... but once you bring him to town he knows it’s game day.

Mrs Browns Boy, a raging $1.04 favourite, set a steady pace up front so by the time the bell sounded the field was bunched again.
But by the time the field hit the back straight it was clear the Barry Lew-trained Karloo Threeothree, the second favourite at a long ($17.20), was the only other horse which could threaten.
The leaders hit the bend for home at speed but Turnbull barely had to do a thing in the straight as Mrs Browns Boy won in a milerate of 2:01:7.
Karloo Threeothree, driven by Mat Rue, was second while Brett Pay’s Sunscreen ($22.40) performed admirably to run third.
“He still worries you, he’s so casual,” Turnbull said of her star.
“Once you really go he goes but he never really travels.
“Like I said, he’s pretty casual at home so he doesn’t show you much but once you bring him to town he knows it’s game day and time to go.”
Heats of the Christmas Gift at Menangle next weekend are on the agenda for Mrs Browns Boy, as long as he pulls up well in the coming days.
“I just let him poke along,” Turnbull added.
The win was part of another stellar Turnbull.
She finished the meeting with four wins from five drives while she also too out one of the day’s other features, the Gilgandra Windmill Final, with another red hot favourite, Taihape Sunset.
A full report on the Windmill will appear in Tuesday’s Daily Liberal.
