Speaking on ABC Radio on Friday morning, Cr Parker said he wasn’t aware of any discussions about Mr Riley’s future as general manager prior to a delegation of councillors approaching Mr Riley about his position on Thursday.
Mr Parker, who lost the mayoral ballot 5-4 to Cr Ben Shields back in September, said the first he heard of the matter was at a meeting with Mr Shields on Thursday where he was informed Mr Riley would resign.
“I was not aware of any process or discussions in this matter,” he said.
“I had a meeting with the mayor yesterday (Thursday) and he informed me then that the general manager had resigned.”
When asked what the issue showed about the way council is operating, Mr Parker didn’t hold back
“While they may think they have a cohesive council, I don’t think it’s a cohesive council,” he said.
“Yes I am disappointed, as are a lot of residents of Dubbo, and in particular some of the past councillors.”
The matter is now due to come before Dubbo Regional Council on Monday night
“With due respect to all involved I think it will be kept confidential,” Cr Parker said.
“A governing body of council may term the gem contract at any time by giving 38 weeks written notice or pay the general manager 38 weeks remuneration. Council are acting within what they can do and can’t do.”
