The in-form Hawks outfit, which has been particularly outstanding in defence this campaign, defeated Dubbo Westside 24-10 with Kaitlyn Phillips and Sally Dwyer bagging doubles and then won its second match via forfeit against Dubbo Macquarie.
It now means Hawks are six from six and hold a four-point lead at the top of the table heading into this weekend’s matches at Bathurst.
With clubs electing to play a finals series rather than rounds nine and ten in the fifth and final week of the competition, it means Hawks (12 points) are virtually untouchable due to its impressive +98 points difference.
Bathurst St Pat’s and Mountain View Misfits also had great days at Caltex Park to shoot up the competition table.
St Pat’s led 12-4 when its match against former leaders Dubbo CYMS was called off at half-time before the blue and whites accounted for Dubbo Macquarie 22-6. It moved the Bathurst side from third to second on the table.
Meredith Jones posted two tries across the day and leads the competition tally with eight. However, Saints would be delighted that six individual try-scorers found their way on the team sheet from seven four-pointers scored on Saturday, proof of the team’s depth.
Mountain View Misfits certainly don’t look out of place in the league with three straight wins after starting the 2017 competition with a hat-trick of defeats.
Tori Canham helped herself to 24 points across the day and now leads the competition point-scoring (34).
Mountain View, an eclectic mix of Castlereagh League Tag players from Baradine, Coonamble and Coonabarabran sponsored by Tooraweenah’s Mountain View Hotel, beat Oberon-Nyngan 32-nil and Dubbo Westside 20-12.
Unfortunately, the Misfits look set to not travel to Bathurst this weekend for the final rounds of action.
The matches will be played at Bathurst’s University Oval with the final draw still yet to be totally confirmed.
