DREAM Festival to offer big first weekend of entertainment

Classic ragtime hit ‘The Entertainer’ and themes from movies set the mood for the start of a big weekend of creative celebration.

Act after act showed the talent of local people at the DREAM Festival’s Pianos on the Pavement on Thursday.

The open-air informal concert downtown attracted about 50 musicians, event coordinator Greg Marginson said.

More than 20 of these gave piano performances, with the audience being treated to diverse styles.

Mr Marginson said it was the biggest participation they had had in the event’s three-year history and he was pleased with the response.

The DREAM Festival action continues on Saturday with the Big Band Riot at the Commercial Hotel from 1pm to 11.30pm.

Featured bands include St Johns College Big Band, The Mudgee Concert Band, The Mighty Big Band directed by John Morrison with guest singer Jacki Cooper.

Sushi in the Shoyoen Gardens runs from 3pm to 8pm on Saturday with a variety of entertainment.

Church on Sunday will bring live music to the rotunda, for a lazy weekend outing.
