That’s the message from NSW Country gun Alex Newsome a month out from the Eagles’ National Rugby Championship clash at Endeavour Oval.
Newsome scored the winning try for the Eagles in their 25-24 thriller against the Canberra Vikings at Armidale on Saturday.
It was the NSW Country outfits first victory of the 2017 championship and played in front of a vocal country rugby crowd at New England, Eagles skipper Paddy Ryan says “the Armidale crowd got us home”.
The club is hoping for similar success, and support, on its remaining road trips to country areas in Goulburn, Tamworth and Orange, the latter coming in the final round of the season on October 28 at Endeavour Oval.
“Get around us. We are playing in Tamworth in a couple of weeks so come and have a look,” Newsome said.
Down 24-18 and the Eagles attacking after the siren sounded, the Country side swung the ball wide and found Newsome who scored to draw the Eagles just a point off the Vikings.
Tayler Adams made no mistake with the conversion and the Eagles won 25-24, their first for the season.
“It was pretty awesome,” Newsome said of his try.
“It wasn’t the best performance by us, we made a few throughout the game but it’s great to get the win.
“You always dream of those sort of moments but I am just happy to get the win.”
It’s not the last time the Country side will play in the region with their round eight clash against Perth Spirit in Tamworth on October 14.
The Orange clash was booked in 2017 after last year’s scheduled NRC fixture at Endeavour Oval was forced to be moved back to Sydney at the 11th hour due to the conditions of the field.
“Hopefully it’ll be nice and sunny this time, not the torrential rain we had last year,” Eagles general manager Andrew Blades said.
