Spring has sprung at the Macquarie Stud at Wellington, which has welcomed three foals in the past month.
Experienced mare Zingaling was the first to give birth, foaling a good-looking colt by champion sire I Am Invincible.
“She’s had a good season and every foal she’s had has been a cracker,” Macquarie Stud’s Simon Baxter said.
Friendy Donna gave birth to her second foal, a colt by Exo Spear, about two weeks ago, while first-time mum With Care was doing well with her filly by Sizzerling.
The stud is expecting another seven foals this season.
“It’s pretty exciting,” Mr Baxter said.
“We’re excited that hopefully if they run, that gives us a bit to play with. It’s great [having the foals around]. You’re looking at the future, and it gives a bit more of a blend to the work.”
