A man-made lake would attract huge numbers of visitors to the city and create a range of new business opportunities, says Dubbo Regional Council candidate John Ryan.

The Central Ward candidate said rowing and yachting could be offered on the lake and it would also attract sporting events.
“Cities like Shepparton have a lake as their feature and even much smaller communities such as Temora, Jerilderie and Condobolin have been able to build lakes, so why is it difficult in a major centre like Dubbo? As well as boosting tourism it would be a godsend for locals during hot summers,” Mr Ryan said.
It was a concept that should be investigated with the full support of the elected councillors and staff, Mr Ryan said. He said in Condo a B&S Committee raised the funds to build the lake and it was shameful that as a city of 40,000 Dubbo hadn’t even been able to make a start.
“We need positive vision steering Dubbo Regional Council from the top, if we can change the current culture of conservative, process-driven decision making the opportunities would be endless for the city,” Mr Ryan said.
