White Balloon Day on September 8 is part of Child Protection Week. It aims to raise funds for charity Braveheart, while shining a light on child sexual assault.
Red Gum Child Care director Deanna McCarthy said it was the first time the centre would be supporting White Balloon Day.
The children would be doing craft centred around feeling safe and talking about their emotions, she said. Everyone would also get a white balloon to take home.
Ms McCarthy said by giving the children balloons she hoped the conversation around staying safe would be continued at home.
Child protection was at the centre of everything Red Gum did, Ms McCarthy said, although it wasn’t usually given a name like on White Balloon Day.
The director said she hoped more child care centres would lend their support to White Balloon Day.
Braveheart helps children who have been affected by sexual assault.
