Ms Hanna said because the fundraising effort to have a liberty swing installed at the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden had gone so well, the initial goal of $20,000 had almost been reached.
Some major fundraising events are still planned, including black tie bingo and a family lawn bowls day, so rather than backing off, additional funds raised will go to a disabled toilet block for the garden.
Ms Hanna approached council and asked what else could be done to improve the facility and found that additional funding could upgrade the amenities block, which will be located outside the existing entrance to the gardens.
“We’ve worked with council and anything extra we raise will make a better amenities block. We would like to get a high-low change table and a hoist,” Ms Hanna said.
“It means families with someone in a wheelchair will have the facilities they need while they are in the area.”
Ms Hanna said there were still plenty of opportunities for people to donate.
“We are about a week out from the Black Tie Bingo and tickets are still on sale from that. We’re super excited about that, we have heaps of auction items and it should be a fun night. Tickets are still on sale for that.”
