The effect of Ryan Medley’s neck and spinal injuries suffered in a Group 11 reserve grade match earlier this month spread far and wide and there has been a huge amount of support shown and a number of fundraising efforts have been held around the city and further afield to help out the well known sportsman and his family in the recovery.
A healthy crowd is expected to be trackside at the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce and Industry race day, which will act as the launch for the 2017 Dubbo Rhinos awards.
On the track, local trainer Frank Hayes will be hoping In Ernest can impress first-up from a spell.
The experienced gelding, with nine wins from 47 career starts, scored two wins and two placings from six starts last time out and on Friday will jump from barrier 11 in the Back To The Milestone Hotel Benchmark 75 Handicap (1020m).
Apprentice jockey Kaylee Kirkwood will have the ride while Canberra trainer Gratz Vella will be hopeful Boys Day Out can impress in his second start this preparation.
Boys Day Out, with six wins from 30 starts, is coming off a sixth placed finish at Warwick Farm on May 31.
Hill Spy, trained by fellow Canberra trainer Luke Pepper, is the top weight but that is offset somewhat by the claim of apprentice hoop Jody Hughes.
The nine-race meeting at Dubbo Turf Club on Friday starts at 11.55am with the final event at 4.40pm.
