A free public lecture at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Dubbo on Monday will acknowledge and applaud the late William Ferguson and his fellow Indigenous rights campaigners.

Former senator Dr Aden Ridgeway will present the lecture, part of the CSU Explorations Series.
Head of campus Cathy Maginnis said the lecture would start at 6pm in building 902, room 202.
She said Mr Ferguson and other Indigenous leaders in Dubbo and district had been part of the “success of the 1967 referendum”. “It is 80 years since Mr Ferguson launched the Aboriginal Progressive Association in 1937 in Dubbo, an initiative which helped drive the cause for justice for his people,” Ms Maginnis said. “Thirty years later, 90 per cent of Australians voted for the justice he fought so hard for, empowering the government to make positive legislative change on behalf of the Aboriginal people.” Dr Ridgeway was the first Indigenous federal parliamentary leader. He was deputy leader of the Australian Democrats from 2001 to 2002.
