Five comedians will be giving it their all at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre on June 2.
The line up includes Aaron Chen, Bev Killick, Dave Callan, Adam Hess and Xavier Michelides.
Speaking to the Daily Liberal, Mr Chen gave his thoughts on his fellow performers.
While Adam Hess was one of his favourites, Mr Chen said Bev Killick was ‘probably funny’. When it came to Dave Callan, Mr Chen said ‘he’s Irish, that’s all I know’. As for Xavier Michelides, he was so hot right now, Mr Chen said.
Mr Chen said he was drawn into comedy just because of the microphones.
“I like the structure of them, I like the integrity of them,” he said.
His turn at collecting microphones may have failed, but Mr Chen said his career highlight was a particularly special microphone in 2007. And while he didn’t hold too high of an expectation about the microphone he would be using in Dubbo, his one request was that it had a silver cord.
For his performance at the DRTCC, Mr Chen said the audience could expect to learn a little bit about kickflips- which he said he could perform on stage, outside, inside and on water- and hear his thoughts on ‘Dubbington’.
I said no to Dubbington. My set will mostly be about no Dubbington.
- Aaron Chen
“I said no to Dubbington. My set will mostly be about Dubbington,” he said.
In continuing his career in comedy, Mr Chen said all he was hoping for was enough money to get a subscription to Netflix so he could simply relax and watch some television.
Each year following the Melbourne International Comedy Festival a cast of intrepid entertainers jump on board a bus and bring the show to more than 80 locations. The roadshow travels everywhere from Darwin to Devonport to Dubbo.
“We sell out each year and this year will be no exception,” said DRTCC manager Linda Christof said.
“It’s 75 minutes, including interval, of hilarity and cringe-worthy political incorrectness.”
The performances often contain course language, sexual references and material that may offend.
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow is recommended for people aged 15-years-old and above.
