A total of $20,000 is required to be added to the $15,000 being provided by Dubbo Regional Council for the project.
Driving force behind the project Tracy Hanna said she was amazed by the generosity of the community.
“All the donations that have come in are pretty cool. It’s only been three weeks but we are well on the way. The people of Dubbo have been so supportive and amazing,” she said.
Just three weeks after starting the project, Ms Hanna said $4000 had been donated, including an incredible $2000 donation from Challenge Community Services Dubbo.
“I teach a free class for some of the guys every week every week and they have given $2000. Things like this are just amazing and it makes the target seem more achievable,” Ms Hanna said.
In addition, tickets have just gone on sale for a Black Tie Bingo event at Dubbo RSL on Saturday, July 22. Some prizes have already been donated for the event but Ms Hanna is hoping others might come on board.
The Gofundme page has already raised $2000 but has been paused until a bank account can be set up and linked to it.
Ms Hanna said that process was in place and just waiting for the bank to give the okay.
“It’s unfortunate because I’ve had 10 people come to me in the last few days and ask why it’s not working because they want to donate but it needs a bank account linked,” she said.
“Noone on the committee wanted to link their own bank account, that isn’t a good look, so we have set one up and as soon as it’s all done, the Gofundme page will be up and running again.
“To anyone who has tried to donate, I would just ask them to be patient and please try to donate again soon. All of the donations that have already been made are being held by Gofundme and will go into the account once it is linked.”
Ms Hanna is also working with Club Dubbo to hold a family bowls day there in August.
Now she is hoping some local businesses might like to donate items to be auctioned or raffled off, or used as prizes for the bingo night.
Local artist Tim Gratton has offered an artwork that will be used as a prize and Ms Hanna hopes a couple more may follow.
“I’ve had some people already donate small items and that is incredible but I would really love it if we could get a couple of big ticket items as well,” she said.
“Tim has donated a work and he’s an artist that has travelled around the world so that’s really exciting.”
