YATZ is a fun, educational program for 13 – 19 year olds at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. YATZ volunteers participate in a wide variety of activities both inside and outside of the Zoo throughout school holidays and occasionally during the school term. Participants get the opportunity to learn about many aspects of the zoo.
“I love the wide range of activities that YATZ volunteers get to experience. It is not specific to one section of the zoo as we work with the keepers, the discovery hosts, the education team and even get to be involved in landscape projects, Dream Night and NAIDOC day,” YATZ, volunteer for five years, Sophie Galante said.
“Volunteering will definitely help me once I have finished school. By doing the YATZ program I have gained more skills than I have anywhere else.
“When I started I was extremely quiet and timid but am now more confident and passionate about everything I do within the zoo. It has given me skills such as teamwork, confidence, public speaking and initiative which will be useful for any job in the future,” Miss Galante said.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s YATZ volunteering program is now open for application for the 2017 intake.
The next induction day will be on Thursday 20 April 2017. To apply to become a YATZ volunteer simply call 68811467 or visit www.taronga.org.au.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s three Cheetah cubs along with their mother Kyan made their media debut on Friday.
Born on October 20, last year, the three Cheetah cubs, one male and two females, have been growing and developing well behind the scenes under the watchful eye of mother, Kyan.
“The cubs are just over five months old now and are thriving. They are all developing quite distinct personalities and growing in confidence every day,” Keeper Jordan Michelmore said.
