Classic cars featured among hundreds of vehicles as they swarmed to the venue for a chance to experience and reminisce the era of drive-in movies.
The momentous popularity of the occasion was displayed in ticket sales, with three of the five screenings sell-outs.
Dubbo Regional Council youth development officer Jason Yelverton said despite some teething issues on Friday night the weekend went off without a hitch.
“A generator packed up on us on Friday night but some quick thinking by electrician Anthony Gemmel had it sorted pretty quickly,” he said.
“It put us behind about half an hour but everyone was really understanding.”
Jason said a combined effort by police and volunteers ensured a faultless night come Saturday.
“It’s been overwhelmingly successful, 99 per cent of the feedback has been positive,” he said.
Dubbo residents, Vicki and Rick Hollis, were so eager to revisit the 70s they attended two screenings over Friday and Saturday in their head-turning 1956 FJ Holden.
They said the vehicle had attended its fair share of drive-ins in its day.
“I went when I was much younger with my brothers and sisters in the early 1970s,” Vicki said.
“Jaws was one of the main movies that sticks in my mind because it was a sell-out crowd.”
They said the atmosphere of the weekend was just as good as it was back in the 70s, and they are eager to see the big screen light up again in future.
“We took it for granted back in the 70s because it was there, but having it as a one-off like this it just made it a real outing for the whole family.
“Monthly-three quarterly would be good – with that response and once you spread the word more to surrounding areas you’d get car clubs and people to come experience it, it’d take off.”
Jason said it remains the million dollar question on everyone’s lips, however he doesn’t have the answer.
“I think it will certainly be something people will look at and hopefully there’s someone out there who’s interested in a profitable business and hopefully from what we’ve been able to display they can see some potential in it.
“So maybe.”
