Four-time Bathurst 1000 winning driver Steven Richards is in Dubbo today - along with his slick Porsche Carrera Cup vehicle and local representatives of Laser Plumbing and Electrical - as part of a promotion for Give Me 5 for Kids.
The team is stationed at the Church Street Rotunda signing autographs, giving out balloons and showing off the vehicle to raise money for Give Me 5 for Kids, with all proceeds to go Dubbo's children's ward.
"It's an important cause," Mr Richards said.
"You know, I've got young kids and they're important for our future and when they're in a bit of strife we want to make sure they've got the right resources and infrastructure to support them."
The 2014 Carrera Cup Champion spent the weekend in Tamworth for the Shannon's Tamworth Motor Show, before coming to Dubbo to support Laser Electrical Dubbo managing director Alex Klassens and Shawn Maas from Laser Plumbing Dubbo in raising funds for the children's ward.
"Laser Plumbing and Electrical have got us on board down here to showcase our car so hopefully that drags a few motor racing fans," Mr Richards said.
"You know, our biggest nation motor racing event at Bathurst is in a regional centre and to be able to come and support, we're always travelling through regional areas that have a huge motor racing fan base.
"And if we can stop off and show the car and sign a few posters...and hopefully people can come down, get a photo and give a little bit of a donation...then that's great."
Mr Richards and the Laser Plumbing and Electrical racing team will be at the Church Street Rotunda until 1pm.
