Nine of Dubbo's best young rugby league talents will be in action at Mudgee today for the Far West Academy and Western Academy trial matches.
Four local players will run out for the Western Academy under-16s side while a further four will play for the Western Academy under-18s.
Dalton Medcalf, Clayton Couley, Jack Davis and Kane McDermott will be part of the 16s and they will play trial matches against the Western Academy and Newcastle Knights junior teams.
The side has had a few sessions together in camps at Warren and Gilgandra but they are expected to face a stern challenge, especially against the Knights youngsters.
In the under-18s Harry Van Dartel, Will Black, Phillip Combridge and Jayden Merritt will all take part in games against the same opponents.
The 18s impressed last week against Penrith and will be keen to build on that success today.
The quality showing against the Panthers was due to a number of intense sessions at Dubbo, Bathurst and Orange during the off-season and despite it being early in the year the standard is expected to be at a real high today.
The Far West Academy under-16s will play from 3.30pm and the under-18s will take to the field at 6.40pm at Glen Willow Stadium.
The Western Academy under-16s take on Far West Academy 16s and the Knights' 15s, Western under-17s play the Knights' under 16s, at Western under-18s meet Knights' under-17s and Far West under-18s. Games commence at 3.30pm and go until 8pm.
