Exchange students who packed their bags for a year in Australia have shared their stories of family and culture - and food - with their hosts at Dubbo. Talk of siestas and schnitzels provided a tempting glimpse of the teenagers' home countries. The audience showed its appreciation with laughter and applause when Marti Llorente, Paul Orschau, Sydney Fritch and Roosa-Olivia Kallio made their presentations. The four, along with Madeline Bachurska from Poland, were selected for this year's Rotary District 9670 Youth Exchange Program. Marti, hosted by the Rotary Club of Dubbo South, told the gathering of almost 100 Rotarians, Rotaractors and friends of a typical day in Spain. He left behind a culture that has a regular wake-up time of 9am, siesta after lunch and late nights, he said. Paul, a German student hosted by the Rotary Club of Dubbo West, said his country's food included schnitzel, kartoff - a potato dish - and sauerkraut. Sydney, hosted by the Rotary Club of Mudgee, and Roosa-Olivia, currently hosted by the Rotary Club of Narromine, gave presentations about their countries of the USA and Finland respectively, and all four students were praised by program deputy chairman Geoff Smith. "They are excellent ambassadors for their country and a credit to their families," he said. “Feedback from the members of the audience has been very positive.” Mr Smith said an information night would be held at Club Dubbo on Thursday February 26 for prospective exchange students for year 2016 and invited all interested community members to attend.
