A racing fan who has made a hobby out of buying shares in horses, Hunter found success when he bought into the German stallion Protectionist and yesterday achieved the biggest win of them all as a part-owner of a Melbourne Cup winner.
In front of an estimated 100,000 people Protectionist charged home down the straight to win ahead of Red Cadeaux and Who Shot Thebarman.
A long from Flemington there was plenty of drama at Dubbo Turf Club's Melbourne Cup meeting yesterday with a horse bolting from the barrier before race one and another bucking its jockey and crossing the line unmanned later in the day.
