Last October, Cr Dickerson had 89 brands advertising on his specially-made tour jersey. He received an email this week from a man in England, Arran Linton-Smith, who is now hoping to smash that record by getting at least 200 sponsors on his jersey for the Ride London 100.
Cr Dickerson and 10 other mayors from the Orana Region of Councils (OROC) wore the jerseys last year and raised more than $170,000 for Macquarie Homestay, which provides accommodation for people who have to travel to Dubbo for treatment at Dubbo Base Hospital.
Mr Linton-Smith said he saw what Cr Dickerson and the Tour of OROC had achieved and decided that he would attempt to break the record while raising money and awareness for the National Autistic Society, as part of their Do Something Amazing for Autism campaign.
Cr Dickerson said he was happy to see someone trying to break the record and doing it for a good cause.
"He doesn't just want to break the record. He wants to smash it," Cr Dickerson said.
"The good thing is that we only set this record last year and sometimes you wonder with these novelty records if anyone cares, but he saw this one and thought that's a good idea
"I did email him back and tell him I thought he was doing it a bit cheap. With ours we had sponsors paying $10,000, $7000, $5000 right down to our cheapest one which was about $250. All of his are 50 pounds so that might allow him to get 200."
While he is happy to see the record being challenged in the name of charity, the Mayor hasn't ruled out trying to get it back if the record does fall.
"We will watch with interest to see how it goes, then we might have to look at having another go at it," he said.
