The mum and her one-month-old have flourished with the loving care and support of a professional assigned to them throughout the time before, during and after birth.
Baby Taylor’s arrival on December 19 was momentous for the Western Midwifery Group, launched from Dubbo Hospital in November.
She was the first baby born under its new model of care and from her mother who chose the service there was heartfelt praise.
Ms Hartley said the care she received during past months in being paired with a midwife was “exceptional”.
The second-time mother decided on the service offered to pregnant women without medical complications.
“Within two weeks I had my first appointment with them and they went over everything from head to toe to make sure everything was running smoothly,” Ms Hartley said.
“From there they were consistent with their care, which was great.”
Having someone familiar by her side as she and partner Daniel Gwyn celebrated the new addition to their family made all the difference.
“It makes you feel a lot more comfortable and welcome,” Ms Hartley said.
“I was really happy with that as well and everything went as smoothly as possible.
“And in the long run you end up with something little and beautiful.”
Ms Hartley readily recommended the service to pregnant women and already some are following in her footsteps.
As midwife Nicolle Grant visited her clients in their home yesterday she reported of increasing demand for the new and free service.
“There have been so many births, I think we’d be up to 14 now,” she said.
The busy team of four is about to undergo a timely expansion.
“The fifth midwife is completely booked and she hasn’t even started yet,” Ms Grant said.
The midwife who moved
from Sydney to Dubbo late last year to take up the position said it had “far surpassed her expectations”.
“You’re with the women and you’re caring for them and you’re loving them and it’s incredible,” Ms Grant said.
Women are invited to add their names to an eligibility list by contacting Dubbo Hospital.
