DNPS girls hockey team : off to the state finals.
STUDENTS at Dubbo North Public School have been participating in Zumba for Friday sport throughout term 3.
The students have been completing their sessions in stage groups and been thoroughly enjoying the experience.
Sessions have been running for 30 to 45 minutes and even the staff have been getting into it. In weeks 8, 9 and 10 students were lucky enough to enjoy two sessions per week, to make up for missed sessions earlier in the term.
Our girls hockey team is off to Sydney on Monday to compete in the state semi-finals of the NSW PSSA knockout.
They enjoyed an 11 - 0 win over Forest Hill Public School and have now scored an amazing 31 goals in five games while not conceding a single goal.
The girls have been busily fundraising this week and organised a lolly guessing competition, a cupcake day, an ice cream stall, a raffle (prize kindly donated by Shaylee and Isabelle Furney's grandmother) and an out of uniform day last Friday.
The team and coaches were presented with medals for being Western Region champions at last week's assembly.
We wish the girls all the best in the semi-finals and hopefully the grand final.
Our artists of the week were Jayden Ris and Shakira Nolan, both stage 3 students.
It is great to see our senior students completing such quality artworks and taking pride in their presentation. Well done.
The principal's award for week 8 went to Shakira Toomey of 5K.
Shakira only started at Dubbo North this year and her teacher, Mrs Kelly, says Shakira is a co-operative and responsible student who takes great pride in her work when completing set tasks.
Shakira always demonstrates excellent behaviour in the classroom and ignores those bad choices around her. Great work Shakira.
On September 3, class 4/5A participated in a day learning about Claymation.
This was conducted by the i-Teach 21 centre and the children worked in groups to develop the storyboard for their movie.
Each group made background props to base their animated characters on, and the main characters were moulded out of modelling clay.
Each group took multiple photos of movement and scenes which were then uploaded onto Windows Movie Maker. Using this software each group could add sound effects, music and text to make a short animated movie. It was great to share everyone's achievements at the completion of the day.
Thursday is the day set down for NAIDOC day celebrations at Dubbo North Public School.
An invitation is extended to the entire school community to come and help us celebrate the contributions made by Australia's Indigenous community.
Students will be having their faces painted in ochre, cooking Johnny cakes, participating in Indigenous games, painting murals and lots of other culturally based activities.
A barbecue lunch will be provided and it would be great to see a big roll up to celebrate this special day.
