Delroy's deputy principal and head of English Neil Thompson said it was the second year the students had access to sporting stars to interview.
This year former rugby league stars Ronnie Gibbs and Wendell Sailor were joined by paralympian Ben Austin, dual Commonwealth Games gold medal cyclist Megan Dunn, jockey Greg Ryan and shield cricketer, Stuart Webster were the subject of the feature writing articles.
Mr Thompson said the visit proved inspirational on several levels to the students.
"We had 100 per cent attendance on the day and the kids were so excited," Mr Thompson said.
"Last year all of the students who were involved handed in their assignments," he said, adding this was an unusual highlight.
He said despite many students struggling to engage with English as a subject the feature writing assignment had proved a popular event.
"They turn up for the day," he said.
"Wendell talked about the culture at the [St George Illawarra] Dragons and he was honest and open about his drug taking.
"The guests were still signing autographs and talking to the students at 10 past four, it was just unbelievable," he said.
Year 10 hospitality students prepared and served a special meal for the visitors and campus staff.
