Dubbo Children's Court heard the alleged offence occurred at a town north of Dubbo on August 27 last year.
Police allege the boy detained the girl by closing a door and standing against it. Police allege the girl was unable to leave the room.
The boy was under the care of a church agency at the time of the alleged offence. The agency provides services focusing on the care and protection of children, young people and vulnerable families. The boy was excused from attending Dubbo Children's Court in person.
The alleged victim was not present.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions asked Magistrate Andrew Eckhold for a further adjournment before moving forward with committal to district court. The charge was adjourned to February 25.
