MANY hands make light work is definitely an old saying but it was certainly pertinent on the weekend as volunteers dedicated their time to beautifying the Macquarie River.

Members of the Dubbo Macquarie River Bushcare Group put on a pair of gloves and took part in weeding and a general rubbish clean-up along the river on Saturday.
Volunteer Libby McIntyre said it was the start of a number of working bees aimed at improving the riverbank.
"There were nine volunteers who came along for two hours to help out," she said.
"It's the start of a 12-month project called 'Protect, Repair, Connect' which focuses on cleaning the river."
The volunteers also focused on a number of exotic trees including the African boxthorn and wild tobacco.
Ms McIntyre said for the last three years Dubbo City Council had done a lot of planting on National Tree Day, and the volunteers have now removed old stakes and bags.
"The basis of our working bees is to get the local community to help with little things like pulling out weeds and we show them how to identify them," she said.
The volunteers worked across 1000 square metres on Saturday.
They will be meeting on the second Saturday and the fourth Sunday of every month.
On March 9 the group will take part in a river canoe clean-up, where they will collect rubbish from the Macquarie River from Devil's Elbow to Troy Bridge while in a canoe.
