IT STARTS off looking like business as usual for corrupt Chicago mayor Tom Kane (Kelsey Grammer). He is playing cynical hardball in the council chamber while uncollected garbage piles up on the streets, and he is setting up a dirty trick to damage one of the contenders in the gubernatorial election. But he knows that he has Lewy body dementia, a degenerative neurological disease that will completely incapacitate him - if not kill him - within a few years. He is trying to keep it a secret from everybody, including his estranged wife, Meredith (Connie Nielsen), but tonight he vagues out for several seconds in the middle of a press conference. Meredith steps up to the microphone to save the day, but the cat might be out of the bag. It is interesting stuff and Grammer is terrific.

THINGS are humming along smoothly as buyers' agents Veronica Morgan and Bryce Holdaway head to Adelaide. Morgan is helping out Dana and Kev, who have $700,000 to spend on a family home. Morgan shows them around a range of nice-looking houses, including a century-old sandstone bungalow, and she goes on to demonstrate her auction-bidding tactics. Holdaway, meanwhile, is helping another family look at McMansions around Gawler, near the Barossa Valley.
