The 50-metre pool will host the titles, which will attract swimmers from near and far in a bid to earn points for the club.

In relation to the carnival, lots of volunteers are needed to get the job done and any help from family and friends will be appreciated. There will also be commemorative shirts sold.

Lucy Taylor continues to show form and will be one of the big guns for Dubbo at the carnival.

Last Sunday she was superb in two events, being just .05 from handicap in the 25m freestyle and .02 in the 100 metres.

She showed great judgement in both but it was interesting to note that she finished with just one podium placing, second place in the 100m freestyle.

The other two events were also keenly contested. Reg Ferguson at 0.03 beat Brian Schloeffel (0.12) and Garry Giddings (0.20) in the 25m freestyle - a victory that came about when The Colonel broke by -0.05.

In the 50m freestyle Mark Scullard, Matt McDonagh and Garry Giddings all broke leaving Ian Henderson to claim the major voucher from Henry Willcockson.

This left the 500m freestyle event with Tom Gray the winner at 0.21 from Lucy Taylor 6.08. Bad luck for Brian Schloeffel (-0.77) and Roger Mackay (-3.08) who were under the handicap times and eliminated.

The other big event was the lucky number draws with Ron Soden, Henry Willcockson, Mike Twohill, Mark Bonzer and Garry Giddings successful.

Last Sunday showed what a great family club the Dubbo RSL Ducks is with four Bonzers and four Scullards in the pool. Great to have everyone on board.

There was also one new swimmer with Cheree Dodkin competing. She broke in one heat and won another but we're certain to hear more from her in the weeks ahead.

Ian Jones was also back in the pool after a layoff and came second in the 100m. He has won this event in Western Carnival, and like Mike Twohill at Condobolin last year, is peaking at the right time.

Finally, a confession - The Colonel this Saturday is 88 years old.
