The new spotlights on the South Dubbo Oval, worth $233,500, upgrades existing lighting on the playing surface up to a semi-professional standard.
Yesterday trenches were dug for electrical cabling for the spotlights, which were installed on Tuesday.
Dubbo City Council Sporting Facilities manager Wes Giddings said the testing of the lights on February 11 would be the first time the new infrastructure was used.
"The lights will definitely upgrade the facilities," he said.
The project was previously pushed back a couple of years by Dubbo City Council.
"The have been on council's agenda for a few years," Mr Giddings said.
"It is good it has come through."
The 200lx spotlights will replace the 50lx system giving the local Australian Football League (AFL) club the Dubbo Demons the opportunity to use the enhanced lighting for evening training sessions and night time games.
"It is very good for the AFL club they are our major user up there," Mr Giddings said.
Mr Giddings has regularly talked to those involved with the project, such as the Dubbo Demons.
"They are happy the lights are up," he said.
The lighting upgrade was just one of several changes slated for the South Dubbo Oval. lights on the junior AFL field soon to be made available.
