Learning to be organised early was something parents and staff at Officeworks Dubbo considered important, but for six-year-old Emma Daley she was just looking forward to her first day.
"I'm excited because I get a new teacher," she said.
Emma was about to enter year 2 at Macquarie Anglican Grammar School and looked forward to playing with her friends, whom she missed.
Her mother, Jane, said Emma had still been conscious to pick out colourful items as they went through their book list.
Officeworks manager Naomi Hartley agreed colour was the key to students' excitement, particularly for younger children.
"Kids are absolutely excited about coming in to buy books, especially when you can get coloured pencils," she said.
"More so when it comes to the art activities focus."
Her tip for parents shopping with their children was to take note of the extensive range and adapt it to their specific needs.
"Do allow them to choose, but adapt from there; join in and make the experience fun," she said.
"Being organised for school gives them discipline, organisational skills, and a sort of work ethic as well.
"It helps with their growth and development in the long run.
"Plus getting it done earlier is easier on yourself."
Already, shoppers from as far as Broken Hill and Lightning Ridge had visited Dubbo for their school supplies. But Mrs Hartley expected the bulk of Dubbo's students to stock up within the next week.
