Emergency services were called to Warren Road after the glider attempted to land and crashed onto the roadway.
The pilot, 51-year-old Queensland man Errol Spletter, had taken part in a glider competition.
He died shortly after being removed from the aircraft at Narromine Hospital as a result of his injuries.
The incident shocked the community and competitors at the Narromine aerodrome.
Until the crash occurred the championships had been considered a highly successful event.
