About 7.30pm yesterday Wednesday 12 December, 2012 an 89-year-old man was assisted into bed at his Moodana Street home by his 58-year-old son.
A short time later the man’s 88-year-old wife noticed flames coming from an air conditioning unit in the lounge room of the home.
The woman attempted to extinguish the flames but suffered minor burns to her face and was driven back.
The 58-year-old man attempted to crawl to the bedroom to aid his father but was also driven back by fire and smoke.
Outside the home he attempted to extinguish the fire until the arrival of fire fighters.
The house was totally destroyed by the blaze and the man’s body was located in the bedroom of the home.
Forensic experts will examine the home later today if it is declared safe to do so.
Investigators will prepare a report for the Coroner outlining the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
