Fox tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee two weeks after the premier league grand final in the Bulls' Champion of Champions match.
It's the second time the 25-year-old has torn the ligament and while his recovery is going well, he admits he won't be on the field until May at the absolute earliest.
"May is the best case scenario for me, that would be six months," Fox said.
"The last time I did it, it was 12 months before I could play again but I'm probably a bit better prepared this time because I know what to do and what not to do."
The injury occurred about 20 minutes into the match and Fox said it came about in inconspicuous circumstances.
“I was at the top of the box with nobody near me and I reached for the ball with my left foot,” he said.
“I was balancing on my right leg, just sort of stretched or twisted the wrong way and went down.
“I knew straight away what I had done because I heard the pop and everything was pretty much the same as when I did it four or five years ago.”
Even if the star forward can’t get on the field in 2013, he is determined to help the Bulls in their quest for another premier league title.
Next season promises to be a changing of the guard for the club, with several experienced players indicating a desire to finish their careers.
“A few boys have already told me they probably won’t be back next year but one of the good things we have done as a club is really develop good juniors,” Fox said.
“I’m pretty keen to coach again next year, regardless of whether I play or not, so I’m looking forward to the challenge of bringing those younger guys along and getting them into senior football.
“That being the case if we can win or even go pretty close then it will be a success because we’ll have a few new faces out there next season.”
