Telstra Country Wide area general manager for Western NSW Scott Curtin, said Telstra had integrated new technology, referred to as 'top hats', into the existing street cabinets to allow more access to internet services for local residents and businesses.
"The top hat is an innovative way of deploying ADSL2+ equipment on top of an existing street-side cabinet which provides telecommunications services. In the past year we've installed seven of these across Dubbo representing a significant investment in the area," Mr Curtin said.
Until now these existing cabinets have not been able to support ADSL2+ technology because of physical constraints. Innovative engineering has overcome this limitation to enable the provision of contemporary broadband technology to more Australians.
The installation of top hats at Dubbo is part of a nationwide infrastructure investment as Telstra continues to invest in innovative communications solutions to bring faster broadband speeds and improved technology where possible.
