Steel Supplies captain coach and selector Lester Hoy, a veteran of some 35 years in touch football, is extremely grateful to the local steel company, especially par- owner Phill Goatcher for his generosity.
Steel Supplies have been the team's sponsor for the past six years.
"We play in the lower grades of both the summer and winter mixed competition," Hoy said.
"While we've only got the money once in the past six years we have been runners-up several times and made the semis each season."
The team is generally made up of mostly young players who usually stay with the side for several years. Ash Pascoe is one such player from the original Steel Supplies team and has missed only a couple of games during that time.
"Ash started when she was 10 years old in our team called Cannon Freight Leftovers who were our sponsors prior to Steel Supplies coming on board," Hoy said. "We usually only have a turnover of one or two players a year and the team is made up of a really good bunch who just enjoy having a run.
"Teams often find it difficult to obtain sponsors but Phill has never hesitated to support us. It's a great game enjoyed by the very young right through to the not so young .
"You don't have to be a fitness fanatic or talented footballer to play, you just need to be keen to enjoy the thrill of a team sport."
