On Saturday in front of their home crowd at South Dubbo Oval the Demons led from the opening period and went on to record a 40-point victory - Dubbo 4.5, 8.10, 11.13, 16.15 (111) to Orange 3.1, 3.1, 10.4, 11.5 (71).
Coach Will Bunt said his side dominated all game except for a period in the third quarter.
“They kicked 40 on us and that period let us down terribly, no other word for it,” he said.
“But to the credit of the blokes they took in what was said to them at the break and they made amends in the final quarter.
“Two blokes I really wanted to give a rap to were brothers Lachlan and Alex Mylecharane who played only their second game of AFL against Orange. They’re only raw but are taking the game on board and improving all the time.
“They join a few other newcomers to the game... Shaun Coyle, Michael Lorrimer, Matt Smith, Cameron Myles and Mark Pay - and they’re playing like champions.
“You then throw in our regulars Mick Haley, Shane Whilesmith and Trevor Dutschke - as well as the other blokes who started last year Allan Eggleton, James Hodges, plus a group of young blokes who are learning from the older guys.
“They may look a bit awkward at times but it’s all starting to gel and we’re winning games along the way.”
Eight Dubbo Demons got their name on the score sheet - Shaun Coyle (3 goals), Alan Eggleton (3), Sam Whalan (3), Rod Mildner (2), Tom Skinner (2), Lachlan Mylecharane, Joel Watterson and Trevor Dutschke while Nic Freedman was a standout for Orange with seven goals, assisted by Tyson Hannus (3) and Damien Caughlan.
Named best on field for Dubbo were Alex Mylecharane, Lachlan Mylecholane, Tom Skinner, Shaun Coyle, Matthew Smith, Alan Eggleton and Orange Nic Freedman, Nathan Pearce, Tyson Hannus, Damien Caughlan, Bradley Hill and Russell Welch.
Bathurst Bushrangers were strong all over the field against Cowra Blues winning 3.6, 7.9, 11.14, 15.16 (106) to 2.1, 5.2, 5.3, 6.8 (44).
