Police said Zachary James Forrest was arrested after an incident in Dubbo on July 27.
Dubbo Local Court heard Forrest, 21, of Dubbo, had received a favourable assessment for the Magistrate's Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) drug and alcohol program.
MERIT provides an opportunity for adult defendants with substance abuse problems to work towards rehabilitation as part of the bail process.
Participants are closely case-managed by the MERIT team and the court receives regular progress reports.
Final hearing and sentence generally coincides with the completion of the MERIT program.
Magistrate Andrew Eckhold adjourned the charges to February 14.
According to bail conditions Forrest is to accept directions of MERIT officers.
