The students, a teacher, lawyer, financial consultant, medical specialist, tourism consultant and financial advisor, led by a Rotarian, experienced an auction at the saleyards.

Dubbo Rotarian Peter English said it was important for the exchange group to see livestock and understand its role in keeping Australia sustainable.

Rheumatologist Diana Karpec from Lithuania said she was pleased to see Australia’s high level of medical care.

“The high technology and drugs are easier to buy and not as expensive,” she said.

“I’m amazed to see every doctor has their own diagnostic tools - back home it’s not widely available.”

She said in Lithuania only a small minority took up private health.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service, she said, was great for remote areas.

“It’s too small to have one in Lithuania,” she said, laughing.

Besides her vocational experience, she loved the water activities she had taken part in.

It was too cold to do snorkelling and diving in Lithuania, because at times it reached minus 30 degrees.

The saleyards experience was interesting to watch but “not a girl thing” to do, she

said.

Business lawyer Egle Adamontye from Lithuania said the legal system was entirely different between the two countries.

In Lithuania, any matter went straight to court, she said, but here there was arbitration and mediation to lower the costs of lawyers.

She said the same work principles applied and employment was much better in Australia.

“You have barristers and solicitors and we don’t,” she said.

“We have attorneys in Lithuania.”

Smelly, interesting and not too bad was how she described the saleyards.

Her food experiences, she said, had been great except Vegemite which was “awful and yucky”.

“You have plenty of seafood variety here, we don’t have much seafood,” she said.
