ONE of the biggest days on Warren's social calendar is tomorrow with the running of the annual QUBE Australian Cotton Cup.
Warren Jockey Club secretary Bec McKay said almost 25 millimetres of rain in the last two days had laid the dust around the district and there was an expectation of a large crowd.
"We were a little worried the change to a Sunday meeting might discourage people from coming," Ms McKay said.
"But it's been the opposite. We've got people coming from Melbourne, Sydney, WA and, with the rain, the headers have stopped so we're expecting plenty of people from the around district to turn up."
She said a crowd of between 800 to 1000 people was expected and a number of additional attractions would ensure it was a great day for the family.
"We'll have food vendors, a jumping castle for the kids, an undercover bar and live music."
A fashions in the field competition with a first prize of $700 was sure to attract plenty of attention with Beautiful Image of Dubbo the major sponsor.
Ms Mckay said all eyes would be on Dane's Jewel, which had won the last two Cotton Cups and was hoping for a hat-trick this year.
The Peter W Stanley-trained horse had drawn barrier three in the field of 15 and, carrying 56.5 kilograms, was rated a great chance, Ms McKay said.
