Newtown def Macquarie
On a blustery afternoon, everyone in both teams had a go and put in their best efforts.
Jed Bruce (playing his first game), Will Skinner, James Fiander and Will Cooke led the bowling attack for Macquarie showing great concentration and making life difficult for the Newtown batters.
Ollie Anderson, Kane Settree, Hayden Bax, Zach Warren and Hamish Foran wielded the willow with great gusto for Macquarie and showed the way with its batting.
Hugh Gibbons and Jack Fuller were fantastic in the field, running, throwing and chasing everything that came their way and a special mention to Ollie Anderson who took his first catch for the season.
Thanks to Macquarie players Hayden Bax and Hamish Foran for outstanding sportsmanship and helping Newtown, well done boys.
CYMS 5-79 def St John's
The St John's girls bowled first up against some big hitters from CYMS.
Maia Gnatuakana was the pick of the bowlers with very good figures of 2-1 off her over.
Chloe Gozzard (0-1) also bowled beautifully and was unlucky not take a couple wickets, only conceding one run off her two overs.
Teagan and Annika Walsh bowled well without reward as did Holly Keiser and Juliette Furner.
Eva Laird(1-9), Ebony Furner(1-6) and Gabby Wood(1-15) claimed one wicket each to restrict CYMS to 79 runs for the loss of five wickets.
When the girls came out to bat Chloe made a steady start (4) and shared a good opening partnership with Juliette Furner (13).
Ebony was next in and struck a couple of beautiful boundaries in her innings of 12. Not to be outdone though was Eva Laird who compiled a solid score of 19.
The star with bat for Hornets was without doubt Holly Keiser who smashed her way to a season best of 27.
Maia was next in and laid claim to the first six of the year before ending on 16.
Gabby Wood (2) and Teagan Walsh (7) found the going tough at the end of the game due to some tight bowling from the CYMS bowlers.
The Hornets finished with 100 runs on the board but unfortunately lost too many wickets eventually going to CYMS by the narrowest of margins.
The girls continue to play with great enthusiasm and are improving all the time. Well done girls.

CYMS 5-172 def RSL Colts 167
CYMS won the toss and elected to bat and scored 5-172 off 40 overs while in reply RSL Colts were 9-167 off their 40 overs.
Tom Atlee (52no) and Rhys Beauchamp (24) had a second wicket partnership of 65 while Mitchell Gough batted well until he was run out for 21.
Anthony Atlee, who is only seven played up from the under-9s and got three runs before being caught and also bowled well with figures of 0-8 off one over.
Mitchell Gough starred with the ball with figures of 3-25 off six overs which included a two-wicket maiden.
Tom Atlee bowled five overs for 1-8, Rhys Beauchamp 1-10 off six overs and some other good bowling from Harry Comerford 0-7 off two, Preston Beauchamp 0-14 off four overs. James Lalor bowled well 0-21 off four and Tom Oriel 0-23 off four.
Overall the Colts improved their bowling and fielding and a win is not far away.

Another great win for the Hornets up against a strong Macquarie team compiling a respectable total of 5-136 before dismissing the opposition for 83.
After winning the toss and electing to bat the Hornets got off to solid start thanks to a determined Connor Etcell who compiled a steady 15.
He was ably supported by Julian Morrison-Zhou who chimed in with a composed 11. Kieran Moore was in next and proceeded to deposit the ball to all corners of the ground before his compulsory retirement on 25 off just 11 deliveries.
Angus Wood rounded off the innings with a well made 10 not out.
Gabby Wood, who was on loan from the girls under-9 team, remained 1 not out at the completion of the innings.
With the ever-solid keeping from Ben Duncan and some tight bowling Macquarie were always going to find it difficult.
Following on from his performance with the bat Kieran Moore decimated the Macquarie top order with two great pieces of fielding that resulted in two run-outs.
He also snared a wicket (1-8) for a man of the match performance.
The standout with the ball however was Angus Wood who returned the impressive figures of 2-4 off his three overs.
Darcy Wood bowled beautifully and was unlucky not to add to his wicket tally for the season as well as being very good in the field Connor Etcell backed up his batting with a catch and a wicket (1-9) for a great game.
His partner in crime Julian Morrison-Zhou was never far from the action and also grabbed a catch and a wicket (1-17).
The fielding of the Hornets was outstanding with Oscar Robinson and Brooklyn Crain effecting good run outs with Ozzie also grabbing a catch.
The last word goes to Gabby Wood who was a great contributor with bat, ball and in the field

Macquarie batted first on day one and scored a healthy total of 1-196 in their first quarter. Lachlan Daniel (12 retired hurt) opening with Bill Cornish who scored at his normal quick pace to get 46.
This brought together Wade Burrowes who is in outstanding form in all grades and Dalton Medcalf who also batted excellently. Both ran very well between wickets with both retiring on 50.
Macquarie then bowled to dismiss Newtown for 68 with Matt Dowton starring with the ball to break the top order having five wickets fall in his four overs from tight line and length bowling, finishing with 4-9 and a run-out from brilliant direct hit turning blind from Dalton Medcalf.
Tim Cushan swung the ball around and was dangerous and Chad Peters got two wickets and Jasmine Bansal, Sam Brandon also took wickets.
For Newtown Kane Simpson batted very well as did Chloe Ahern and Reed Heterick put his head down to value his wicket. Macquarie decided to bat and halve the remaining 46 overs in the second week rather than declare early to enable everyone to have a bat and finished their innings on 5-271.
Highlight was Sam Brandon who was in great form to hit a chanceless 50 retired.
This brought Newtown in to bat the other 23 overs and they fought hard to finish on 8-69. For Newtown Matt Toole batted well to get 20-odd and Nathan Holland also fought hard.
Wickets were shared for Macquarie with Wade Burrowes having the best figures with 3-2. Other Wicket takers were Namya, Matt Dowton, Jake Williams, Jasmine Bansal and Lachlan Daniel. In the field Dalton Medcalf was outstanding with five catches and a run out over the whole match.
Newtown Black 7-283 def CYMS 93
CYMS started their innings with Callan Braithwaite and Thomas Nelson opening but Heath Blackett soon had Thomas Nelson out LBW.
Heath Blackett continued to bowl well to have both Luke Ensor (2) and Will Graham (0) out very quickly. Matthew Miller was next at the crease and batted very well until Callan Braithwaite was out caught by Tom Barber for 13. Matthew Miller got 22 runs but was out off the bowling of Marty Jefferies and stumped by Alexander Burke.
Daniel Duffy and Nathan Hawke saw out the rest of the overs both not out.
Newtown openers Marty Jefferies and Zaiden Britt opened strongly and frustrated the CYMS bowlers and hit some fantastic shots all over the ground. Zaiden Britt retired on 54, Ben Knaggs joined Marty Jefferies and who also retired on 51.
Newtown continued on day two and Marty Jefferies soon made his 50 and retired which saw Tom Barber and Kevin Baker at the crease.
Daniel Duffy started the breakthrough for CYMS taking the wickets of Tom Barber (33) and Will Jamieson (0) while Callan Braithwaite saw Kevin Baker (11) out LBW and Dan Flannery (3) bowled. CYMS ended up taking seven wickets which was a great team effort against a much stronger side.
CYMS batsmen Daniel Duffy and Nathan Hawke batted smartly to protect the wickets until Zaiden Britt came on and took the first of many wickets finishing with 4-4 off three overs and with Daniel Duffy out on 26.
Nathan Hawke batted strongly to see the overs out and finish not out on 5.
Rugby 150 def St John's Green 117
Rugby played their first game of the season against St John's Green and started well.
The Rugby openers of Mitchell Smith and Issac Hogan had a opening partnership of 81 runs before Mitchell Smith was out for 29. Issac was out five runs later for 32.
After 23 overs Rugby were 4-104.
St John's batted and were in early trouble being 4-13 after 10 overs.
Alex Ford and David Williams fought back with a partnership of 46 runs. Rugby got two more wickets to have St John's 6-62 after 23 overs.
The second day of play started with St John's continuing to bat.
They lost two more wickets at 65 before Henry Railz and Tom Quinn had a 49 run partnership.
Tom Quinn batted really well for his 15. Henry Railz was the last batsman out for 32. After 43 overs St John's were all out for 117. Rugby had to get 14 runs off 23 overs to win the game.
Rugby lost their fifth wicket at 114. Rugby lost their last 5 wickets for 3 runs to be all out for 150 in 34 overs. Patrick Berryman was 50 n.o.
A good game of cricket played in the right spirit.
