Constable Craig Skene joined Senior Constable Sally Edwards in early January to work with Dubbo’s disadvantaged youth.
Constable Skene was transferred to duty with Youth Command from general duties in Dubbo.
“At the time of coming into the police force I was hoping to go into a positive role to help the community,” he said.
Both officers at the PCYC work with disadvantaged youth, targeting youth offending hot spots and helping implement programs in the Western Region.
“We work with numerous youth agencies in Dubbo and we have the support of the local police,” Senior Constable Edwards said.
Further change at the Dubbo PCYC includes the new range of activities on offer including Zumba, kids’ fitness, Tai Chi, Smart Moves, musical theatre, boys ballet, disability or inclusive gymnastics and team or display gymnastics.
Dubbo PCYC dance and gymnastics manager Andrew Bassett said the new schedule meant staff and volunteers had “sought more qualifications”.
“We hope to encourage more kids to participate because
kids like to try everything,” he said.
