Ms Burns’ friend Linda Snelson hit the central business district again yesterday, seeking donations to auction at a fundraising event at Dubbo RSL Memorial Club on Sunday.
She finished the day with armfuls of goodies from businesses, big and small.
By the time of going to print yesterday, 33-year-old Ms Burns had not delivered her triplets, siblings for Malcolm,4, Jarmaine,7, and Jamarra,9.
A caesarian section had been scheduled, but Ms Snelson reported late yesterday that it had not yet been performed.
“It could happen tonight,” she said yesterday. On her way to Sydney on Monday, Ms Burns told of her fears for the lives of two of the babies who had “shrunken stomachs”, despite previous laser surgery to ensure they were being nourished in the womb.
“They are coming eight weeks early. I’m a bit scared,” she said.
Ms Snelson immediately set to work to help her friend, who she thinks has not yet grasped the enormity of her situation.
She said Ms Burns had bought all she could afford for the three babies, but was short on many of the basic equipment and products they would need.
But on Monday afternoon, downtown businesses didn’t hesitate to put their hands in their pocket or donate goods for the family or the auction at the weekend.
The trend continued yesterday, up and down Talbragar Street.
“The response has been amazing,” Ms Snelson said.
Ms Burns receives a “sole parent pension” and her estranged partner is “in jail”.
She rents a small three-bedroom home through her Community Housing provider, Compass Housing Services, which is searching for a larger home for the family to move into.
The fundraiser, from 2pm to 8pm, will feature entertainment by singer-songwriters Pete Riley and Todd Williams.
Max Wiseman will lead a karaoke session.
Entry to the event is $5 per person or family, with a gold coin donation required to get up on stage and sing.
Items up for auction range from kitchen appliances and wine to car accessories and vouchers, to spend at local stores.
