After the running of the Australian AMCA Nationals Title last month, which was reported to be the best Australian AMCA Nationals Title ever raced, the city will now play host to two of the ultimate sprintcar events set down on this season’s NSW calendar.
Morris Park Speedway has drawn competitors from across the country for this weekend’s sprintcar spectacular, by hosting the 2011 Digger’s Cup on Saturday night and the 2011 NSW Sprintcar Title on Sunday evening.
This will be the first time in the history of the NSW Sprintcar Title that it has ever been contested outside the metropolitan Tyrepower Sydney Speedway (Parramatta) and competitors are eager to give the country track an event to remember on Sunday night.
Promoter Leanne Anning has taken inquiries from as far as Melbourne, the Northern Territory and North Queensland for accommodation, sightseeing and venue information.
“Spectators can be assured of action-packed speedway racing this weekend,” she said.
“It’s also great to promote Dubbo’s other tourist attractions while our visitors stay in town.”
The NSW Sprintcar Title is the pinnacle event for NSW drivers.
However, with Dubbo being located at the crossroads of the Newell and Mitchell Highways and having the Digger’s Cup the night before, it has made the event easy access for so many interstate competitors to attend, and the NSW title could head over the border.
Robbie Farr, Andrew Scheuerle, Bryan Mann, Peter Lack and Cameron Gessner are the Queenslanders vying for the title along with a strong trio from Victoria - Max Dumesny, Jamie Veal and Grant Anderson.
The Northern Territory is represented by speedsters Danny Reidy and Daniel Goldoni with the wildcard entry being New Zealand’s Jamie Duff, who could take the Title out of the country.
Locals Jeremy Cross and Mark Blyton head up the NSW contingent with Kelly Linigen, Matt Young, Adrian Maher, current Morris Park lap record holder Troy Little, Garry Brazier, Ian Madsen, Eddie Lumbar, Mick Turner, Jackson Delamont, Michael Matchett, Taylor Johnson, Glen Saville and Andrew Wright.
“Morris Park Promotions is proud to be able to bring such prestigious speedway events to Dubbo,” Anning said.
“The calibre of Australian sprintcar champions coming to visit our venue and our city will definitely cement Morris Park as a revered facility nationwide.”
With such a star-studded line up, there are sure to be some fast times, furious leader changes and ultimately a NSW Champion at the end of what will be Dubbo’s ‘sprintcar spectacular’.
Sunday’s racing starts at 6pm.
